It is through two projects. One, entitled “Access to finance and technical assistance for small forest and agricultural producers and enterprises AFR100 Togo/GER/BMZ”, was officially launched during a meeting held on 21 and 22 January 2025 in Kpalimé. < Renforcement de la conservation et de la résilience des paysages forestiers dans la zone montagneuse sub-humide du Togo/GEF >The same workshop made it possible to validate the second project, called <>. This double event, chaired by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Environment and Forest Resources, was attended by a hundred actors working in forest restoration as well as technical and financial partners.

The two projects, which aim on the one hand, to strengthen the resilience of communities in the West Plateaux in the face of climate change and on the other hand, the preservation of forest ecosystems in this region, a real biodiversity hotspot in Togo, were the subject of presentations. The inclusive and participatory exchanges that followed as well as the work in committees allowed the various actors and partners to be imbued with the content of the two initiatives. The idea is to encourage their support for the successful implementation of both projects.

The Prefect of Kloto, ASSAN Kokou welcomed the choice of Kpalimé to host the works and the vision of the highest Togolese authorities who understood the need for reforestation very early on by establishing National Tree Day in 1977.

FAO, through the office manager in Togo, DJIWA Oyetounde and the Republic of Germany, through the Representative of GIZ, WALLENOEFFER Suzanne, as well as the Global Environment Facility (GEF), which provide technical and financial support for these initiatives, reassured the government of their commitments to carry out the two projects successfully. They also promised to mobilize additional funds for the successful implementation of both initiatives.

The Secretary General, Col. DIMIZOU Aoufoh Koffi, representing the Minister of Environment and Forest Resources, reaffirmed the government's commitment to restore 1,400,000 hectares of national forest landscapes by 2030 in the context of the AFR100 project. He welcomed the fact that both projects emphasize the strong involvement of local communities, especially young people and women, in the preservation of forest landscapes and biodiversity while promoting the creation of green businesses that provide jobs and sustainable incomes. He expressed the government's gratitude to FAO, the Republic of Germany and the GEF for the multifaceted support.

A field visit is organized to better assess the initial situation of the area of the two projects and to see some examples of good practices.
